S L U G S T O R Y

Our friend, after the game in which he slugs the winning homer, goes to a bar for a few slugs of his favorite drink. Later, when he drops some slugs into the jukebox, he is confronted by the manager. He slugs the guy. Heading for the door, he pulls a gun and fires slugs into the ceiling. Outside, he sees slugs on the sidewalk. It was his moment of truth and time for action.

Some years ago a therapist in a hospital chemical dependency treatment program was conducting an aftercare planning session with a young musician who played in a band called Slugs. They were discussing his fear of returning to the bar environment, where he worked nightly, when it struck them that his solution was SLUGS. They decided that if his priorities were set upon leaving treatment, then he would put Sobriety first. Love, as much as he could find, was next in importance. They talked of the importance for Unity with a group of fellow recovering addicts. Growth was also of great value, and would naturally follow the others. The final piece was certainly Spirituality, in order to attain full recovery. They were delighted at their discovery.

They decided that anytime either of them heard the word Slugs, or saw slugs in print, they would think of Sobriety, Love, Unity, Growth, Spirituality. They embraced these values and formed a secret society (SlugSociety). They have continued to focus on SLUGS, shared the SlugSecret with others, and found success and happiness in life.  We Sluggers are entirely grateful to the SlugSource for this wonderful gift.  We think SLUGS is the truth about recovery and may be the truth about prevention of problems with the drugs.
