T H E  S L U G S Y S T E M  O F  R E C O V E R Y

The SlugSystem is a new and easily understood description of the recovery process.  It is designed to provide a focus to recovery and prevention efforts for professionals and the consumers of services.  This concept is supported by observations made by the author in a twenty-seven year career as an addictions counselor and program manager.  Drug- free lifestyles appear to be developed along a particular pattern or sequence of adopted values and corresponding behaviors.  Simply stated, full recovery means achieving abstinence first (Sobriety), receiving support and positive regard from others (Love), committing to group involvement (Unity), engaging in activities that bring about change (Growth), and acceptance of a Higher Power (Spirituality).

We believe that SLUGS is most useful as a memory device to remind us of the full meaning and essence of recovery.  We think the more we remember our core values, the better the results.  Slugger is the new identity achieved by all who embrace the SLUGS values.  Symbols are used to help the Slugger stay focused on the goal of being Sober, Loving, United, Growing, Spiritual people today, this hour, this moment.

The SlugSystem is simple enough and complete enough, giving a fresh look to the recovery picture.  Even a stoned youngster can get it.  The primary goal of SlugSociety is to promote these wonderful, life enhancing values to the greatest possible extent.  We are using this website and the membership as the methods to this goal.  Consider joining our effort through membership in SlugSociety.
